Happy 50th birthday to the League Cup: A see behind by the story books

The League Cup is 50 years old. With the help of Sunday"s Wembley matchday programme, Sportsmail picks its favourite matches from the competitions past.

1976: Manchester City 2 Newcastle 1

Dennis Tueart scored a stunning overhead kick to win the Cup for City their last major trophy. Peter Barnes had put City ahead, only for Alan Gowling to equalise. Magpies fan Tueart then hit his spectacular winner and later celebrated in a Newcastle shirt!

1972: Stoke 3 West Ham 2

Two legs and one replay had failed to find a winner in this epic semi-final but the fourth attempt was a classic. West Hams Bobby Moore went in goal after seven minutes and saved a penalty but, having trailed 2-1, Stoke levelled eight minutes into first-half injury time and got a winner after the break. Harry Redknapp twice hit the post for West Ham as they chased an equaliser.
